Southsea Blaze

At 5.35 pm last night a fire on Southsea pier had 80 fire fighters from 7 appliances trying to control the blaze.

The building formally Joanna’s nightclub collapsed onto a power sub-station leaving 500 local residents without electricity.

Fire crews worked throughout the night to keep the area safe and under control.

The police force says the fire is not linked to riots in other parts of the country, and an investigation is ongoing.

Demolition and Salvage Ltd have been called in by the Principal Building Control Officer of Portsmouth City Council to help Hampshire fire and rescue in making safe Savoy Buildings, South Parade Southsea.

We have excellent relations with the Fire Service, hosting county and international Urban Search and Rescue exercises at our Portsdown Main site.

Demolition and Salvage staff and directors were on site late last night assessing situation.Machinery is moving to site today to make the building safe.

The company regularly carries out emergency works and have worked with Hampshire and Sussex fire service and the MOD.

Weighbridge

To help with sales control and to ensure that vehicles are not overloaded Demolition and Salvage Ltd have installed a surface counted 15 metre 50 tonne electronic weighbridge at Portsdown Main Site.
In the spirit of recycling the unit was salvaged from a redevelopment project at Marchwood, saving cost, transport and materials.
Reconditioned and installed by Demolition and Salvage staff a new indicator has been fitted and final calibration has been carried out by Solent Scales, www.solentscales.co.uk

The Weighbridge is a modular design that can be relocated to other sites in the future with the minimum of fuss.

Bishopstoke

Demolition and Salvage are currently demolishing the former Bishopstoke Motors workshop and filling station. Work Includes the safe removal and disposal of Asbestos Cement roof sheets, the decommissioning and removal of the underground fuel tanks.
The site is being redeveloped as part of a housing scheme and all hardcore and concrete is being crushed on site for use as fill material for the new development. An estimated 97% of the materials arising are being recycled.
