Summer has arrived with a bang and things are busy.
Other than the Crane Demolition, the company has been busy with demolition works at St Mary's Hospital. All asbestos removals have now been completed and the demolition work is forging ahead.
Our crushing plant is having new jaws and some routine maintenance before moving to the site to recycle thousands of tonnes of hardcore and concrete. Crushed material is used local construction projects and is part of the overall recycling strategy for the whole site.
It's great to be busy - the challenge is to fit some work between the bank holidays.
BAE Systems -Crane Demolition
Many of you will have seen a huge 600 tonnes section of the new aircraft carries HMS Queen Elizabeth leaving Portsmouth harbour on a giant barge. It's the biggest thing to be built in Portsmouth for years and to let the huge section leave the Naval Base a dockside crane had to be demolished. The crane was supplied new in 1959 by famous makers Stothert & Pitt and was at the end of its working life.
It's the fourth crane that we have removed from the Naval Base and each has had its different challenges. As ever we had to keep a disturbance to a minimum and work with all the Naval Base stakeholders to complete the task. The crane will be replaced with a new one a part of the dock development programme that is being put in place to serve the new ships.
